Surveyor & Development Review
The Surveyor and Development Review section of Public Works carries out
the function of the County Surveyor, reviewing and approving land division maps, records
of survey, assessment maps and corner records; keeping those maps on file, along with
hundreds of others, for public and professional use; and maintaining the county-wide
system of horizontal and vertical control monumentation. The section is also
responsible for coordinating the Public Works review of private development in the county,
particularly land divisions and improvement plans for the attendant infrastructure. In
addition, the section implements or coordinates formation of assessment districts
and formation of underground utility districts.
The Surveyor and Development Review section maintains a public counter
Monday through Friday, except for holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to noon and from
1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the County Government Center, 701 Ocean Street,
Room 414, Santa Cruz, California. Recorded maps, improvement plans,
topographic maps, aerial photos and other materials
are available for viewing and research and can be reproduced on site for a
fee. Staff is available for consultation on survey, engineering, and
development topics. The Senior Engineer in this section also serves as
the department's compliance officer for issues related to the Americans with
Disabilities Act.
