Many local businesses underutilize the waste reduction services to which they are entitled, and sometimes pay more for disposal than necessary. In fact, recyclable materials are banned by law from disposal in the county landfill. The franchised waste hauler offers free recycling collection to its customers, and other services at nominal fees. In addition, the County has extensive waste diversion opportunities at its facilities.

To help businesses take full advantage of these services, the County of Santa Cruz offers free waste reduction assistance to businesses in the unincorporated areas and the city of Scotts Valley. A specialist will assess the current state of waste management in the facility, then provide recommendations for waste reduction with projections of any waste volume reduced and dollars saved.
